Is a transport chair covered by Medicare or Medicaid?

What is the difference between a transport chair and a manual wheelchair?
Transport chairs have smaller rear wheels and are designed to be pushed by a caregiver—they cannot be self-propelled. Wheelchairs have larger rear wheels that allow for both self-propulsion and caregiver assistance.
Can I self-propel a transport chair?
No. Transport chairs are intended to be pushed by a caregiver. If independent mobility is a goal, a clinician can discuss a standard wheelchair instead.
